Young Voices’ mission is to cultivate the next generation of influencers for liberty in policy, journalism, and academia. We do so by providing writing training, editing, and media placement services to a network of 50 writers ages 18-35 (whom we call “contributors”). Founded in 2013, our contributors are regularly featured in state and national outlets across the country.
We are currently looking for an associate editor to assist in editing and placing our network’s commentaries. Responsibilities will include:
- Following current events to pitch story ideas relevant to the latest news and policy issues
- Editing contributors’ op-eds with a focus on providing feedback to improve writing skills
- Pitching contributors’ op-eds to publications
- Outreaching to national and state outlets with the aim of building long-term media relationships
1-3 years of professional experience in communication and/or policy is encouraged for the role, but not required. The editor will be regularly interacting with media outlets on behalf of Young Voices, so strong writing and editorial skills are a must. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with working in a startup environment, flexible to take on new responsibilities, and passionate about Young Voices’ mission to brainstorm organizational strategy.
The salary range for this position is $35-50k based on experience. Young Voices is headquartered in Washington, DC, but remote workers will be considered.
